Public Canoeing at Rodgers Park August 17th, 1-3PM

Public Canoeing will be held at Rodgers Park on August 17th from 1-3 PM at Rodgers Park. The FREE event is offered by Benton County Conservation. The public canoe program is held at Rodgers Park. During this program, we will cover canoe and water safety and paddling basics for flatwater canoeing. Participants should meet at the beach and should bring their own water and wear shoes that can get wet.

Dinner at the Fairgrounds - July 22, 5:00 p.m.

Make plans to come back to the fairgrounds on July 22nd for "Dinner at the Fairgrounds!" The dinner will be served beginning at 5:00 p.m.The Benton County Cattlemen's Association will be firing up the grill again to grill steaks and Iowa chops! The group will also bring along some sides to go along with it.Proceeds raised will go toward fairground improvements.

Wild Animals: When to Help and How July 20th, 6:30 PM

Benton County Conservvation will hold a class concerning, "Wild Animals: When to Help and How" on July 20th, at 6:30 PM at the Benton County Nature Center. The event is FREE Come learn about wild baby animals and what to do if you find one! This presentation will cover emergency response actions, identifying and assessing wild baby animals, information about local rehabilitators, and what you can do to help.

Nature Kids: Creek Stomp July 21st, 10AM-11:30AM

"Nature Kids: Creek Stomp" will be held on July 21st, 10 AM-11:30 AM at Wildcat Bluff Recreation Area (3139 57th Street Trail, Center Point, Iowa 52213).The event is FREE! Come explore the creek at Wildcat Bluff Recreation Area! This program is suitable for all ages so bring the whole family! Participants must wear shoes and be prepared to get wet and dirty.

Stellar, Shine Jesus’ Light July 16-20

Wesley United Methodist Church, Bethlehem Lutheran Church, and Vinton Presbyterian Church invites children to Stellar, Shine Jesus’ Light!A summer kids’ event called Stellar VBS will be hosted at Wesley United Methodist Church, 516 2nd Avenue, Vinton, Iowa from July 16 - July 20, 2023.At Stellar, kids explore the galaxy as they dig into feeling the love of Jesus shining and leaving equipped and inspired to shine Jesus’ light to the world.

Boom-Fest Celebrates 13th Anniversary August 26, in downtown Vinton

 2023 marks the 13th Boom-Fest celebration. Boom-Fest is an annual Arts & Crafts Festival in downtown Vinton, Iowa, promoted by Vinton Unlimited, Vinton’s merged non-profit Chamber of Commerce and Economic Development group. Artisans and crafters, farmers market and food vendors are welcomed to the downtown streets of Vinton. Kids activities and live entertainment fill the time slot with a family-friendly street fair type atmosphere for all to enjoy.

Author Ruth Schneck to present a book talk at Hawkins Memorial Library, LaPorte

Ruth Anne Schneck will present a book talk and signing on Wednesday at 6 p.m. at the Hawkins Memorial Library in La Porte City. She will discuss “Geoffrey’s Christmas Wish,” her newest book. Children and Adults are welcome to attend. There will be coloring book pages available from the book at 5:30 p.m.Geoffrey is Schneck's personified teddy bear and she has written and illustrated several books about him.

Reptiles! July 18th, 9:45AM-10:45AM at Van Horne Library

Reptiles wil be at the Van Horne Public Library on July 18th, 9:45 AM-10:45 AM at Van Horne Library.This event is FREE!Come out to the Van Horne Library to learn about Iowa reptiles with Benton County Conservation Naturalists! This program will include live animals and is appropriate for all ages. Registration is not required. 

Benton County Fair Fun helps to raise FUNds!

IT'S FAIR TIME!!!! Make sure to mark your calendars and make sure to visit our booth this Friday and Saturday between 5:30-7:30 pm and purchase a few balls to dunk someone for a great cause! Artistry with Aaron: Firefly in the Sky July 6th, 6:30PM at Nature Center

Registration is required for the "Artistry with Aaron: Firefly in the Sky" painting class. Benton County Conservation is offering the class on July 6th, 6:30 PM at the Nature Center. Cost is $40 for adults and $20 for kids. Fireflies are found on every continent except Antarctica. However, in the U.S., it’s uncommon to find them west of Kansas! This painting class led by Naturalist Aaron will include step-by-step instruction, one 11x14” canvas and painting supplies to make a firefly painting.
